Bit of a rush job this week--had to double up last week because I'm out of town (I sit on a beach while you read this!). Thus, the rough inks with the destroyed pen. While on vacation I've scored some great finds at a local used bookstore: one collection of Lee Holley's Ponytail cartoons, and a book of Burr Shafer's J Wesley Smith cartoons. Lee Holley is one of my all-time favorite cartoonists; he's like the missing link between Hank Ketcham and Schoolhouse Rock illustrations. I've never been aware of Burr Shafer's work before, but his bold, gestural lines are the kind of work I cannot resist.
My favorite lines this week: the rightmost boy's hair in the final panel.
