New comics series: In pursuit of lost books
This is a series I'm doing for the teen guys book blog I've contributed to for several years now. It's focused on mood and expression rather than rendering or realism. The story cleaves to the truth (in some ways more than I had planned), but the art is different.
It's very influenced by Mattotti's The Crackle of the Frost in terms of pacing, format, and also his desire to pursue an internal narrative over any pursuit of realism of space or landscape or form. Obviously, he's working with color, and a completely different understanding of form, but I needed to break away from the a compulsion to over-render. Check out the series at the guyslitwire blog and search for "in pursuit of lost books."
